Evie is 6 and a lovely big sister for her younger brother Thomas. With only 10 months between them the siblings are close in age, and are often thought to be twins as they share the same interests and an extremely strong bond.
Evie and Thomas need a foster family who will be able to take care of them long term. Unfortunately the siblings’ Mum has battled addiction for a long time and is unable to give her children the love, care and attention they need and she can no longer cope with her addiction, and her children need to be placed in long term foster care.
Despite being little people of just 5 and 6 years, the children are more independent than many children of their age – fixing their own breakfast and dressing themselves for school every morning.
Sadly the brother and sister have not had the same start at school as many children their age.
Being a little older, Evie has missed more school and despite being quite far behind her peers with reading and writing her teacher says she is making good progress and always tries her best. Evie really wants Thomas to be a good boy and will always look out for him at school. Evie’s social worker says they would love her to have a caring home where she can be a little girl and play with her favourite cuddly toys instead of trying to be the grown up.
Thomas is an active little boy who loves to run around the playground as fast as he can. Like many children his age he can sometimes be a little silly in class and in weekly assembly. His teachers say it’s because he wants people to notice him as he has not had the attention other children get from their adults growing up. They are working with Thomas to help him feel supported in school and he has formed close bonds to his teacher and classroom assistant which is helping him feel more relaxed and comfortable in class.
The siblings’ social worker is trying hard to find a foster family for them so the children can grow up together as without each other they would be absolutely lost. The children have so much love to share they would bring lots of happiness to the family they could share it with. She says the thought of not finding them a family and separating the children is keeping her awake at night as they deserve a family who will support and care for them.
