Jamie is a practical, hardworking teenager who is looking forward to securing a career in construction.
Jamie is 16 and is moving towards independence after being in the council’s care and needs a home where he can be supported emotionally and helped to develop crucial life skills.
Jamie grew up in a single parent family, throughout his childhood it was always just him and his dad versus the world. Whenever something went wrong, whether it be a pipe bursting beneath the kitchen sink, his bedside lamp blowing a fuse, or a girl in his form class breaking his heart – his dad would be there to fix it.
Then, one day about a year ago, his dad walked into his bedroom and said the sentence no child wants to hear their parent say: “I’ve got cancer”. Over the course of the year Jamie’s dad’s health deteriorated, and eventually, unfortunately, he passed away.
Jamie is now sixteen years of age and he is looking for a caring home to provide him with emotional support and practical budgeting skills, helping him to transition into adulthood and follow his dream of becoming a builder. Jamie is relatively independent and is approaching adulthood – he doesn’t need a full time foster carer, just someone to support him in a loving home environment.
Jamie recently got accepted on a BTEC Construction course at Middlesbrough College, and he’s looking forward to getting started this September. After the loss of his dad, Jamie’s confidence was knocked and he would now benefit from a loving, caring, resilient adult in his life to help him open up and make friends – providing him with a fresh start.
He wants to follow in his dad’s footsteps by becoming a full-time builder. By applying for and being accepted on a vocational college course, Jamie’s done well in taking the first step. He now needs someone to guide him through these couple of years, helping him learn to budget, organise himself and learn valuable people skills which will help him throughout his life.
